Secret: Pictures hub was originally called Pictures + Camera

As you may recall, I visited Microsoft several months ago to document the then-unfinalized Windows Phone 7 system before being provided with my own device. At the time, one of the differences between the devices I used on campus and those the company had shown publicly was that the Pictures hub was called Pictures + Camera. I asked about this and was told it was among the many things I couldn’t discuss yet: Pictures was going to be renamed to Pictures + Camera. (This name convention is used by Music + Videos, which many people mistakenly called “the Zune hub.”)

Here are some still frames from a video I took at the time showing this (sorry for the blurriness, but these were never meant to be used for anything other than my own documentation):

I see the rationale behind either name. And while I wrote the book, I did use the name Pictures + Camera for a while. But when the prototype phone arrived, I saw that the name Pictures was back. Turns out Microsoft opted for the simpler name after all.
